THE WORLD BANK’S MISSION ASSESSES PROGRESS OF THE "MOLDOVA EDUCATION REFORM" PROJECT

 

The World Bank’s mission in the Republic of Moldova during  March 1 - 4 evaluates the progress of the “Moldova Education Reform” Project (MERP), MOLDPRES reports.

 

During the discussion with the Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Lilia Pogolsa, parties addressed issues related to the progress on the implementation of activities provided by MERP components, procurement of 10,000 units of computers for distance education; equipping of chemistry, biology and physics laboratories in 160 educational institutions, etc.

 

During the current week, a series of working meetings of the World Bank’s mission team in the Republic of Moldova with the representatives of the MECC, the “Moldova Education Reform” Project and the Moldova Social Investment Fund will take place.

 

The last World Bank’s mission in this regard took place in October 2020.

 

MERP is an investment loan, financed by the World Bank. The project was implemented between April 2013 and June 2020. Within MERP, the following activities were planned: rehabilitation of the infrastructure of district schools and their equipping according to quality assurance standards in education, developed by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research; implementation of the modern training system for school managers and teachers; modernization of the Management Information System in Education, which will contribute to the elaboration of policies based on current and truthful information in the field of education; strengthening the testing and evaluation system, including the consecutive and continuous participation of the Republic of Moldova in the International Student Assessment Program. Due to the pandemic, some activities of the Program have been transferred for 2021.
